In this Newsletter, we are proud to cover new opportunities for tournaments, weekly briefs and blogs, new resource materials, and scrimmage results. Enjoy!
DSDS 1 Entry is now available!
A central part of Equality in Forensics’ mission is ensuring that as many students as possible have access to debate opportunities by supporting independent entries at tournaments. That’s why, once again this year, we’re offering independent entries at DSDS #1 !
Every single entry will save AT LEAST 25 dollars compared to regular independent entry.
Here’s the price to register with us for each event:
Congress: $55
Speech: $55
Lincoln-Douglas: $55
Public Forum: $85
Policy: $85
World Schools Debate: $115 (Please note this fee is for whole entries, not individual members of team events like PF.)
THERE IS A FEE DISCOUNT FOR ANY ENTRY THAT BRINGS A JUDGE IN CONGRESS OR SPEECH EVENTS. Anyone who brings a judge will receive a $25 discount on their entry, as long as someone else is also competing with Equality in Forensics in the same event as you. This discount does not apply to Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Policy Debate, or World Schools Debate.
PLEASE keep in mind that WE WILL NEED JUDGES AVAILABLE TO FULFILL THE JUDGING OBLIGATION. If we do not have enough judges to cover all entries, we will drop entries until we meet our obligation. Entries who are bringing a judge will not be dropped. Registration is due November 30th!
New YouTube Resources
You can now watch the second part of the final round of congressional debate at Florida Blue Key! It consists of 16 of the best debaters out of over 200 entries in congress. This recording showcases their great arguments and speeches as they debate in one of the most competitive rounds of the season. Go check it out!
The Red Folder Publications
In domestic news, read about the mayoral elections in NYC and other states, economic erosion from the government shutdown, and an elected Arizona Congresswoman not being sworn in.
In international news, see briefs on Venezuela’s struggle in Congress and against Trump, and Israel’s violation of the ceasefire.
In debate briefs: Government policies which mandate technology companies to provide lawful access to encrypted communications, often known not-so-affectionately in the cybersecurity world as “backdoors,” are viewed fairly negatively by most experts. Touted by some as a solution to child abuse and terrorism, proposals to allow government access to private communications in the U.S. have been greatly opposed.
Blog Publications
This week’s blog article by Dani Scantlin is up! Please check it out, and share our posts about it with your friends and fellow debaters!
The Role of a Coach
“As an educator, it is not your job to tear down competitors from other teams and engage in juvenile behavior. You are the administrator and adult in this situation, and you should model respectful behavior for your students.”
—Dani Scantlin 11/5/2025
